Vancouver / HONG-couver

Is it VANcouver or HONGcouver? I get confused from time to time too. There are just so many asians in Vancouver and a lot of migrants are from Hong Kong and that is why – HONGcouver. =) Anyway, there are lots of people from Taiwan, China, Korea, Japan and Europe as well.

I had to do some grocery shopping and my friend brought me to this mall on my first week here…

This is purely an ASIAN mall...

All kinds of bread and buns - hot dog buns, red bean bun, buttermilk bun, coconut bun... the list goes on.

Unhealthy section - instant noodles... and of course, i bought 'indomie'. =)

I bought quite a lot and it cost me $45 only... satisfied =)

I have also started exploring a few restaurants and i seemed to find some sort of weird things in the restaurants i have been to. Look what i found in one of the Taiwanese restaurant.

MILK TEA WITH NOODLES...

What a weird combination – Milk tea with noodles.

Last Thursday was Canada Day and it was a public holiday. My friend introduced me to a Chinese restaurant for dim sum.

This restaurant has a lot of awards

YEA, i looked pale and hungry. THe restaurant was full and d waitress told us to wait for about 30 minutes... -_-"

Yummy 'Yau cha kueh'... =)

And…i found a weird egg tart. It has a plant growing on it.

Egg tart with trees going on it..

haha… despite the weird looking egg tart, it was REALLY YUMMY!!!!

Okay, by now, you might have fallen in love with Vancouver. It seems like migrating to Vancouver is not a bad idea, you won’t get deprived of anything. They seemed to have everything.

But NO! You won’t believe it and i still don’t believe it. Sad sad Lilessy could NOT find her favourite MILO!!!!!  How sad is that? People here don’t drink MILO. =(

Will someone please courier me my favourite MILO???  Please???? I promise i will be very nice to you =P

Updates from Vancouver, Canada

Wow. Time flies. Its been two weeks since i arrived Vancouver!

Vancouver has this slogan at most places – “Imagine 2020, Vancouver will be the greenest city in the world”. Yea, this describes Vancouver very well. Before you do anything, make sure you do it “green”, ie bring your own shopping bag to the supermarket or each bag will cost 5 cents each. When you throw your rubbish, make sure you separate those that can be recycled and those that are truly rubbish….the list goes on. So yea, help save the environment, GO GREEN!

Alrighty, a lil update about myself…

My first week was bad because i had a really bad jetlag. When i was in New Zealand last time, i was always ahead of time (New Zealanders are the first to see sunlight and the first to wake up in the world btw). Now in Canada, im going back in time. I am currently one day behind.

A glimpse of Vancouver downtown

Vancouver City

A glimpse of my company - situated at the heart of the city.

I’ve started work since my first week in Vancouver. My workmates are wonderful and I have a good working environment.

My work station.. first day

AND my work station - 3rd day. Real busy ay? haha.

I was also really blessed as i came just in time for company’s retreat and so i spent my first weekend at Whistler. Whistler is about 2 hours drive from Vancouver.

On d way to Whistler =)

Whistler is like a tourist area. It is like “Genting” in Malaysia where people go there just for entertainment. In Winter, Whistler will be really packed with people ready to ski or snowboard.

A glimpse of Whistler. There are many hotels and shops around that area.

Its summer. Bright and nice =)

See the mountains with snow behind? That is where you go for skiing and snowboarding.

My workmates...

Games session...

My hotel room - all paid by the company. How awesome is that? =)

Heeeee....

karoake session

I had a good time at the company retreat. I got to know many new people which is good.

That was my first weekend in Vancouver. Lots more pictures to come in my next post.

To all my friends around the world, especially Malaysia and New Zealand, I am surviving really well in Vancouver and i hope all is well for you, yo!

A Clever Fisherman

6

Posted by Lilessy | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 09-06-2010

I was searching for a fisherman picture and found this! Isn't he cute? =P Well, let's see what this clever fisherman has to teach us.

As King Haroun and Queen Zubayda were sitting in their palace one day, a fisherman who was selling fresh fish was brought in front of them. King Haroun decided to buy a fish and gave  the fisherman 4000 dirham for it.

The fisherman was overjoyed. He thanked King Haroun and left.

Queen Zubayda turned to her husband in anger and scolded him for paying so much for a fish. King Haroun let her have her say but said that the fish was purchased and that there was nothing that could be done about it.

However, the Queen was adamant and insisted that the fisherman be brought back.

“We will ask the fisherman about the gender of the fish,” she said. “If he answers that it is female, we will say that we wanted a male fish and if his response is that it is male, we will say that we wanted a female fish! Either way, we will be able to return the fish and have our money back.”

So the poor fisherman was called back and was asked the question.

Fortunately, he was clever enough not to be caught out. He replied, “The fish is neither male or female. It is eunuch (neutral).”

King Haroun was so impressed by the ingenuity of the man that he ordered a further 4000 dirham to be paid to him. The fisherman thanked the King again but as he was about to leave with the heavy bag of money, one of the coins fell onto the floor. The fisherman immediately bent down to look for the coin. Queen Zubayda was already upset that the fisherman had been given 8000 dirham.

“Look how miserly this man is!” the Queen exclaimed. “One coin has fallen out of his bag full of money and he searches for it instead of leaving it for some other poor servant to find.”

The man heard this remark and said, “O Queen, it is not out of miserliness that I search for the coin but rather because it had the picture of generous King Haroun on it. I would not tolerate anyone to cause dishonour to the King by treading on the coin.”

The King was so happy with this response that he immediately called for another 4000 dirham to be given to the fisherman. When Queen Zubayda saw all  this, she thought it was better to hold her tongue and let the man go with the 12000 dirham before the King decided to increase the amount again.

Did you get the moral of this story? =)

Look at the picture below…What are they doing?

Telling stories? Gossiping?? -_-"

Speech is an Art.

The beauty of man/Woman is in the clarity of his tongue”.

Your tongue is the translator of your intellect”.

In other words, a person’s intellect and wisdom is recognized through his speech.

“Let noble thoughts come to me from all directions”

Even the Bible ask us to guard our tongue.

Proverbs 10:19 says “if you talk a lot, you are sure to sin; if you are wise, you will keep quiet.”

So…learn from the Bible…

If one knows WHAT, WHEN and HOW to talk then such a person will be successful in life.

My dramatic 2010 birthday

13

Posted by Lilessy | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 07-06-2010

I woke up early that morning, EXTRA early just because it was my big day. Yes, just like a lil kid i know. BUT who don’t like birthdays?

As soon as i arrived at work, i received an email from the *** Embassy (will reveal this in future) to go for medical checkup for my visa. And the next email was from a colleague of mine asking me to be free for lunch at 12.30pm. I kinda knew that there might be a surprise celebration for me by my colleagues. Feeling all excited, i quickly get my ass to the Embassy and then to the clinic for full medical checkup. I was so worried that the medical checkup would take too long because i want to be back by 12.30pm!

As soon as i arrived at the clinic, i was so happy because there was NO ONE there. Can you believe this? No queues and i was first! Maybe not first but it was about 10 am and there was no one there. So yea, the usual procedure for medical checkup with the last bit and the scariest bit, to “donate” some of my blood for test. Everything was fine. I stood up and hurried to go to the radiologist for X-ray because the radiologist is quite far away.

THEN…

When i was in the car, i started feeling giddy and i literally felt like my intestine or something in my stomach was turning. AND THEN, my drama started… I kept on vomiting and vomiting, like NON STOP. I felt like my body’s system just went crazy. I was so scared and i started praying so hard in my heart… It was like my whole world collapsed. I vomited to the point, i can neither hear nor see anything around me. By then it was 12.30pm. My colleagues started calling me and were shocked to hear of my SUDDEN sickness. Sadness… i felt sooooo sad because it was my birthday! I didn’t know what was wrong  with me! I started worrying because i will be flying back to my hometown that night.

My colleagues wanted to cancel the celebration but i insisted on going. After vomiting continuously for about half an hour, i asked the driver to send me to the restaurant and i vomited AGAIN in the car. POOR DRIVER. haha.

I was stunned upon reaching the restaurant because there were so many people there and they were all WAITING for me. Everyone could see my pale looking face and i was so weak that i literally fell asleep while sitting at the table. When they were done with their meal, they woke me up and sang me a song with a beautiful cake.

Here, just two pictures of some of my colleagues…

From these two pictures below, you can tell that everyone looked ‘down’. That is because they had plans for me but had to cancel them all because of my condition. SO SAD! I did not even get to taste how my birthday cake was like!

I went back home to rest in the afternoon and praying hard that i could fly that night. Everything was better then and in the evening, i was all set to go to the airport.

People who takes AirAsia knows that we have to walk a pretty long distance just to board the plane. (sigh, just because it is budget airlines). While i was walking towards my plane, the vomiting started again! I could not breathe but just vomiting like crazy. AT that moment, all i could think of was KCH. I really want to get back home so i prayed really hard. The air stewardess won’t let me fly but due to my persistent, they decided to let me board the plane and gave me medicine to take.

SO SAD.

My flight was actually delayed by an hour so i arrived KCH really late. I was all tired and all i wanted was to get home to my lovely bed and sleep. My brother picked me up from the airport. As usual, because it is a Friday night, we will go to our parent’s cell group for supper.

I was reluctant at first but because both my papa and mama were there… and so i went. Everything seems normal. Pastor was there and we had a short chat till about 11.30pm.

AND THEN… my pastor suggested going to his place for late night movie! BUT i was already so tired and i did not want to go. (Actually i was also very sad because i felt my birthday celebration was all destroyed by my SUDDEN sickness. )Anyway, AGAIN, my brother emmotionally blackmailed me so i decided to go for a while.

Note, this is about 11.45pm?

AS SOON AS I ARRIVED AT MY PASTOR’S HOUSE… i opened the door… AND….

SHOCKINGGGGGGG!!!!! SO many people were standing at the staircase singing “Happy Birthday” song to me and there was a cake in the middle! I was stunned. I could not process what was going on. From the sudden sickness and vomiting for the whole day and disappointment with the failure to celebrate my birthday during lunch…. to…. a huge 11.45pm birthday!

I was truly surprised. So surprised and touched. I felt so LOVED.

THAT night, everything was pink and white =)

Pink and white theme for the night...

Look at how they decorated the place! It was like it was my wedding! HAHA. Kar yee asked if i would hire her to be my wedding planner and i answered without reservation, DEFINITELY. =) Thanks to all those who decorated the place for me, particularly Kar yee, Doreena and Emma. =)

There was a huge banner for me...

Pink and white balloons all over the place...

Even the kitchen was decorated with pink and white people and balloons...

It was LATE but there was so much food!

All the pinks and whites were hungry...

You see how food is one of the greatest attraction on earth?? =P

Even the lil princess wore pink and white... she was wearing pink and white undies btw. =P

I received a lot of pink roses... =)

My birthday cake - chocolate brownie

P/S: My pastor specially brought this cake back to KCH from Singapore for me!

My presents…

A handbag inside =)

Three new jackets and a watch =)

And... the biggest present of all... but it looks small huh? =)

My heart skipped a beat when the 'apple' sign appeared... I was telling myself, it's just a box...

My heart skipped twice but still i was telling myself....it is just a box....

It is an iphone 3 GS!!!!!

I could not cope with how i felt that night. That day was such a dramatic day. From the excitement in the morning to the disappointment in the afternoon, sadness at night to the joy and love i received after that…

What more can i say? All i can say is that my GOD is such a good GOD. He loves me just so much. Thank you Lord and thanks to everyone for the hard work, surprises and the presents. Most special thanks to Chiew Ling and Pastor for organising it and making it happen. =)

That day was my birthday and that night, i was smiling throughout my sleep.=)

Hello world… and my identity.

Hello!

It is kind of random to start this blog but yea, good bye to my previous blog in which i only update once a year and hello again!

Now check out the conversation below… it is between this someone with the name XX and lilessy.

XX: You better not be one of those so called ‘quick burn’ personality but turn cold really fast too.

Lilessy: Ahhh…Errr…I will not? … *gosh!* Am i like that??! I will so prove you XX wrong. HAHA. Yea, i will try to be real consistent this time JUST to please my fellow fans of my blog!

Fans: YAY!!! *clap clap*

So yea, WELCOME people and remember to STAY TUNE.

Just a lil something about myself. As you can see, this picture is self descriptive.

You can see two colours in common, pink and white.  Oh come on! SO GIRLY!!! Yea, i admit that it is way too girly for my age but what to do? These two colours, especially pink has somehow become my identity. BUT i don’t wear pink all the time! I really don’t!

Btw, this picture was taken on my surprise birthday party this year. Everyone wore only two colours, white and pink. Even the little girl at the party wore white and pink undies. How cute! =)

Is my identity just like that? Like PINK??

Identity could also mean individuality, personality, distinctiveness, uniqueness or just a condition or character as to who a person is.

Now my fellow friends, what say you? What do you think about me? Or what do you associate me with?
